A cold snap in the second week of May cut the black locust bloom across Henan and southern Shaanxi to nine usable days. Our contracted apiaries in those two provinces delivered 38 % below their five-year average.
What that means practically: water-white acacia at 8–16 mm Pfund will be tight from August onwards and we expect to allocate rather than sell freely. Buyers with annual contracts are covered at contract price. Spot buyers should plan for a firmer market through Q1 2027, and should consider vitex at 34–50 mm as a partial substitute where the retail proposition allows it.
The northern belt did better. Shandong and Hebei came in only 6 % down, and quality is excellent — moisture is running a full point below last season because the dry spell that shortened the bloom also ripened the crop faster.
